Hundreds join Labour’s pro-democracy rally in Bodmin

More than 300 pro-democracy campaigners have staged a rally and march in Bodmin to protest against the government’s planned shutdown of Parliament.

In a demonstration organised by the North Cornwall Labour Party, and supported by Liberal Democrats, Green Party and Mebyon Kernow activists, protestors came from across Cornwall to wave flags, banners and placards.

At one point they raised umbrellas to symbolise their solidarity with pro-democracy campaigners around the world, notably Hong Kong.

The crowd heard speeches from Labour’s Joy Bassett and the Liberal Democrats’ Danny Chambers before a Cornish piper led a procession through the town to a memorial stone which honours the 15th century rebellion leader An Gof.
